Import mini DV footage from sony Handycam DCR-PC7E PAL without power cable

So I finally got my hands on a sony handycam dcr-pc7e pal to import old mini DV footage onto my mac. But there's a final little step that I'm not sure about. I got the camera and all but don't have the power cable and no battery pack. I figured out that I need a firewire 800 cable, an adapter from firewire 800 to thunderbolt 2 and another one from thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3. Does the sony camera get enough power just over the firewire connection or do I need the power cable as well? Thanks :)

Unfortunately you will not be able to power the Sony from the FireWire connection.

Your Sony has a 4 pin FireWire connection as do many DV/HDV camcorders.

4 pin FireWire cannot provide power delivery where 6 pin and 9 pin can.

Although there were some camcorders, probably professional , fitted with 6 pin FireWire I do not know if they were able to power the camcorder,I have my doubts .

So you will need the appropriate power supply which I believe is in the form of the battery charger,

although you may not need to obtain a battery unless you want to use the Sony in the field to record.

It looks as though the Sony is powered from the mains wall socket via the battery charger but a battery is not required to be in the battery charger or the camcorder. The instruction manual makes this clearer.
