Cannot Run Data Recovery Software on Ventura

We are trying to retrieve some mission critical work from an external hard drive. Usually this is a fairly simple process. Unfortunately, I'm having issues running any of my small business' data recovery software on Ventura on an M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Although we have to keep so many copies and redundancies, we have to occasionally run data recovery software on a drive that may be in the process of failure or to recover a mission critical file on an legacy drive.

We currently use Disk Drill, Data Rescue, and ReciverIt. All of them are up to date and optimized for Ventura. Yet we have not been able to launch any of these apps. What we get is an error message that "This application is damaged and cannot be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

Since this is the first time we've had to recover a file since Ventura came out, we're stumped. We've tried multiple fixes (since the applications are not broken) and updated all permissions and settings in Ventura. Has anyone else had this issue with recovery software?

Sorry, I missed that part but it certainly doesn't sound like they are. You should probably contact the vendors in any case for help with their products.

I also had this problem, and it was an open door to ****. In my case, the error message itself was erroneous. Of four "senior" Apple advisors I spoke with over the course of a week, only one was helpful in any way. I spent so many hours on this problem that I balanced the value of my time against the cost of a new machine and just bought a new Mac. I mention this to invite you to examine the possibility that something in the dark twisted heart of your operating system is provoking these messages, and that you may not be able to identify it or resolve it. There is a similar message warning the user that a "file is damaged and should be moved to the Trash," also untrue. I never saw these messages before Ventura.

Ha, ha, four asterisks replace the word that is an acronym for High Energy Liquid Leak.
