Brand new iPhone 14 Pro dropping calls

Just bought a brand new iPhone 14 Pro for my wife. Spectrum wireless service. Drops calls abruptly after 1 or 2 minutes. No problems with the iPhone SE that I use. Have enabled wifi calling; not a signal issue. Have performed network reset; doesn't resolve. Please let me know if you have any ideas. If defective product because of antenna issues, will need to return.

Having the same issue. Repeatedly dropping calls when the phone isn't even moving. So far, I've found it seems to be a 5G issue. When into Settings-->Cellular--->Cellular Data Options and changed Voice & Data to LTE and seems to have fixed the problem. Not sure yet if this means it won't use or attempt to use 5G at all or if it changes all cellular date to LTE only, but it's fixed the problem for now.

So I went back to Apple for a 7th time. They did another “Drop call” search. I wasn’t aware it only saves for approximately 14 days.

The diagnostic revealed 6 dropped calls. They took it in the back, did the faraday box test; it passed but still had network issues.

the way Apple works as far as “Replacement” is concerned; it MUST fail specific tests for the store to be permitted a replacement.

Moving on…after explaining my situation and expressing my lack of trust in Apple’s new products, management agreed to a “Mid level replacement” Or “Mid system replacement”? (I forgot the term). Basically they remove the front glass, the rear glass and the frame; replace the guts and put everything back together.

The part was ordered, delivered and I returned to the store about 5 days later.

The staff took the phone and advised it would take about 1.5 hours to complete the repair.

So when I returned, they associate stated “We had a problem with your phone while putting it back together. Your camera was no longer working after making the repair so with the added cost of replacing the camera as well, the decision was made to just give me a new 14 out of the box.

Guess what…

The new phone works great. After months of dropping calls, multiple trips to Apple, after leaving one cell carrier to another and still having the same connectivity issues…they finally replaced the thing.

THE PHONE WAS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE!

Been doing a lot of research and trying different things on this issue with my iPhone 14 pro. 1st thing I found is that when I use bluetooth from my phone to "Xtreme Technologies New XLink BT HD (One Cell Wideband Audio)" the calls DO NOT DROP! This device basically converts a home cordless phone system to bluetooth allowing you to pair your iPhone to it. My calls never dropped when I use this device and a cordless phone. The calls always drop within about 2 minutes when just using the iPhone itself. Although that worked for me I was unsatisfied with having to do that with a $1,000 phone. I worked with Apple support who after about an hour advised me to take the phone into the Apple Store for further diagnosis and possible repair. After meeting with the Apple Store I chose to send the phone in for repair. They gave me a loaner phone but only after I asked them about it. The loaner phone did the same thing when I got home. After further reading about the going to settings-accessibility-suri-call hang up - turn it off. On both my iPhone and the loaner it was already off. I tried something different on the loaner. I turned on call hang up option -then hard booted the phone. When the phone opened up again I went into the turn it on/off option which was in the on position and turned it off then hard booted the phone again. After that the loaner phone did not drop any calls. In the mean time my repaired phone was ready so I picked it up and found out they took the glass front off of my original phone and put it on a brand new phone so basically I had a new phone with my old front glass. I inquired about why they would do that instead of just sending a completely new phone and was told because of environmental issues Apple wants to do everything they can to help the environment. None the less the new phone works beautifully. No dropped calls! I was told if the phone had been out of warranty the cost would have been $625 to repair. For me No Charge. This has been one of the most frustrating technology problems I have dealt with and wanted to share with you. Don't know if this will help you but I hope it does.

I had the same thing happening on my SE 2nd gen. After one of the iOS 16 updates started dropping calls around 2 or 3 minutes in. Tried different things suggested here. Didn’t solve. Went to Apple Genius Bar yesterday and they tana series of diagnostics and now it works. They did say that using a VPN on the current software update does not always work together. I had one on mine but was not using. They removed and after some more diagnostics it works again. Go figure. Hope you all find resolution too.

This seems like a carrier issue either at your end or the other end.

It is my experince that some Carriers apply priority filters to connect to preferred customers and Carriers depending on which Carriers are on good terms with them.

Please Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider). The agency who issued the SIM to you and to your some contacts. I would suggest you to lodge a written complaint.

This seems surely like a carrier issue. You need to contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider), the agency who issued the SIM to you.

Call Failed or Dropped Calls / Disconnecting

In telecommunications, a dropped-call / Auto Disconnecting Calls / Call-Failed Muted conversation are mainly due to technical reasons / fault at the carrier's end. At times the calls are cut off before the speaking parties had finished their conversation and before one of them had hung up (dropped calls or Call Failed or Auto Disconnection or muted calls).

Few Reasons Your device Keeps Muting / Dropping / Disconnecting Calls or encounter Call Failed.

  • Your Signal Is Weak.
  • It's Raining (Cats & Dog)
  • The Cell Tower Is Overloaded / Heavy Traffic (Telecommunication)
  • You've Misunderstood Your Signal Strength
  • You are moving and the signal weakens while changing from one tower to another

I’m finding it only happens when using the Apple cables earphones. It kind of makes touching any part of the phone stop whatever you are doing - like dropping a call, even on WhatsApp on WiFi (so not a carrier issue), and also interrupting playback of music, podcasts etc.

I’ve turned off Siri, to make sure there’s no “touching” activated.

If I am using the phone in my car on Apple Car Play, no issues. Ditto if I am using it without the Apple headphones.

So something about using the headphones turns the phone into something totally unstable.
