What would make a iphone 6s with upto date ios and newish battery through apple recall blow the phone apart this is expanding the screen up from the lower half only the screws stopping it from fully separating.
ihad been in a dry drawer and not charged ? Could have been lethal and now not usable?

Apple recommends when a phone is stored for a period of time, it be charged to about 50%. Apparently you let the battery fully deplete, which is not recommended for Lion batteries.
