How to remove the Gmail Reading pane on iPad in the google mail app in landscape mode?

I just purchase an Ipad pro and I despise having the reading pane in my Gmail app it only happens in landscape mode. I can not get this turned off and per what I can find on the internet it says to go to the left and click the three lines and turn the reading pane on or off by selecting no split. As their no setting wheel that comes up either, scrolled past all my folders and found the setting there but again no option to turn off the reading pane. I have been trying for several hours and can not get this turned off. On the Desktop I disabled the Reading pane and have had the no split select forever and have the comfortable mode on but still no luck. And it appears I'm not the only one who wants to be able to TURN IT OFF in the Apple ios app. Can anyone help? Why is there no Setting Wheel in the app? Google please get this as an option in the apple ios app!!! and get the Setting wheel back in!!!
