Hello Bill Gregory,

First, you'll want to convert your Pages document to Word format using the steps in Export to Word, PDF, or another file format in Pages on Mac.

  1. "Open the document, then choose File > Export To > [ file format] (from the File menu at the top of your screen).
  2. Specify export settings: Word: If the file needs to be compatible with an older version of Microsoft Word (1997-2004), click Advanced Options, then choose .doc from the pop-up menu.
  3. If there’s a password checkbox, do one of the following:
    1. Set a password: Select the “Require password to open” checkbox, then enter a password. It applies only to the exported copy.
    2. Keep the original document password: Make sure the “Require password to open” checkbox is selected.
    3. Use a different password for the exported copy: Select the “Require password to open” checkbox, click Change Password, then set a new password.
    4. Export the copy without a password: Deselect the “Require password to open” checkbox.
  4. Click Next, then type a name for the document (without the filename extension, such as .pdf or .epub, which is appended to the name automatically).
  5. Enter one or more tags (optional).
  6. To choose where to save the exported copy, click the Where pop-up menu, choose a location, then click Export."

From there, you can attach the document to an email within Mail using the steps in Add attachments to emails in Mail on Mac, or use the built in sharing options after opening the document in Microsoft Word. Find out more by checking out Email a document from Microsoft Office.

Take care!

These are user-supported communities and other than the Apple community hosts, the Apple product teams do not participate in these public communities. Use the Feeback menu item on the Pages, Numbers, or Keynote application.

If you want to simulate the old functionality, I created a Monterey or later compatible Shortcut that automates the attachment of an export item as an Apple Mail attachment.

For Pages 12.2.1 on Monterey

For Numbers 12.2.1 on Ventura

And there is a dedicated Pages or Numbers Support community instead of an operating system post.

Apple made this feature clunky from super stream lined. Now I have double the files on my computer. It went backwards! Please change this back to the original way! Share, select file types, then text it, email or whatever. Not everyone has Apple products - and sometimes we like to send a PDF - something we don't want changed - say a bill - CHANGE IT BACK PLEASE!!!
