Safari slow to launch

It was working fine earlier in the day. Then I launched Safari, and it bounced in the Dock ~25 times before a blank window appeared. I tried restarting my Mac, clearing the cache and turning off extensions, and restarting in Safe Mode, nothing worked (it was slow to launch in Safe Mode as well; also, animation, such as going into Launchpad, was incredibly slow in Safe Mode, but I digress). Every time I try launching Safari, it bounces in the Dock anywhere from 9-30 times before it finally starts. I seem to get a massive number of trustd-related messages in Console while Safari is launching, if that means anything. Firefox works fine. Anything else I should try?

Hello mrhooks,

Is the issue only happening with Safari, or are you experiencing issue with other apps as well? That will help us plan how to proceed.

If apps aren't opening or working as expected, please be sure to check out the suggestions outlined in this link, which may help with that issue: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

"1. Quit and reopen the app

Quit the app, then open it again. If the app won't quit, force the app to quit. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

2. Restart your Mac

Restart your Mac. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

3. Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, then click Updates. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your Mac. Or if you didn't get the app from the App Store, look for updates to the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

4. Reinstall the app

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. If you didn't get the app from the App Store, redownload the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

I did all of those aside from reinstall the app, since it appears one can't simply download Safari from the App Store or even an installer like in the old days. It was only Safari; every other app worked just fine. I never discovered the root cause, but the issue appears to have been temporary, and went away a day or so later. Now I'm having an issue with Mail moving Junk mail to my Inbox instead of deleting it, but hopefully that will prove to be temporary as well.
