Confirming Passcodes During Sign-in After iPhone Repair
My iPhone 13 Pro was repaired yesterday, and during the process of signing back into iCloud / restoring from backup, the following notice appears:
“Update Apple ID Settings
Some account services will not be available until you sign in again.”
After inputting my Apple ID password, the following notice appears:
“Enter iPhone Passcode
The passcode you use to unlock this iPhone will also be used to access save passwords, and other sensitive data. You store in iCloud.”
After inputting my iPhone 13 Pro’s passcode, the following notice appears:
“Enter iPad Passcode
Enter the passcode you use to unlock the iPad ‘Scott’s iPad Pro 5th honey Gen.’ This passcode protects your Apple ID, save passwords, and other data stored in iCloud. Your passcode is encrypted and cannot be read by Apple.
The referenced iPad Pro is the device I’m using to type this question to the Community. I know the correct passcode. I used it a few moments ago after restarting this iPad. Yet, when I enter the correct iPad Pro passcode, this notice appears:
“Verification Failed
There was an error, verifying the passcode of your iPad.” See attached screenshot.
The only option is to click “OK.” I can then try to enter the iPad Pro passcode again (tried it — same result) or click on “Don’t Know iPad Passcode.” If I click on that, the following notice appears:
“Don’t Know Passcode?
If you can’t remember the passcode for ‘Scotts iPad Pro 5thGen,’ you can enter the passcode for one of your other devices or reset your end-to-end encryption data.
Choose Device
Reset Encryption Data
Ask For Help
Cancel”
I don’t want to reset my data and Ask For Help requires a Recovery Code that I never setup.
Selecting “Choose Device“ presents the following notice:
“Enter Passcode for Other Device
Choose a device and enter its passcode.
Scott’s iPad Pro 5thGen
Scott’s iPhone Pro 12
Scott’s iMac”
I have tried all three devices using all three correct passcodes. I know they are the correct passcodes because I have power cycled each device and successfully entered the passcode upon power-up.
Further attempts to input a passcode gives me the following notice (for the iPhone 12, for example):
”Incorrect Passcode
The passcode for ‘Scott’s iPhone 12 Pro‘ was entered incorrectly too many times. You can approve this iPhone [the 13 Pro] using another device or reset your end-to-end encrypted data.”
See attached screenshot.
I’m at my wit’s end. Any assistance / suggestions heartily welcomed and appreciated.
I have thought about removing the other devices from my iCloud account and then adding them back in, but I am weary to remove the devices and lose verification options (how will I be able to successfully restore the iPhone 13 Pro?
Thanks -
Scott
