Suddenly I can not take a reading on ECG app. Crown dial works with all other apps

Are you only placing your finger on the side of the digital crown? You are NOT pressing the digital crown in and holding it, right?
Have you tried to use a different finger, like your pinky instead of your index finger?
The purpose of a finger touching the crown is to provide a 'ground'.
Which Apple Watch model do you use?
Did you Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS and Apple Watch to the latest version of watchOS ?
Did you already force restart your Apple Watch?
To force restart, hold down the side button and the Digital Crown at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
It sounds like you are going to need to contact Apple support and/or send it in for evaluation 🥴

Have you had any success? Mine stopped working around January. Same issue as you. I took to apple today and of course my warranty is expired. They didn’t find anything wrong (diagnostic anyway) I uninstalled it and reinstalled and still not working.. I have the Apple Watch 7
I have the Apple watch series 6. My 12 pro max phone is updated & watch is updated. I forced restart on both my watch and phone. I deleted and reinstalled ECG app as well. The dial works with everything but the ecg app.
Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, I have tried using every finger...light to heavy touch even compressing the crown in. I have even tried switching the recognition of the dial on left instead of the right side. The dial works for all other uses just not my most important one. Looks like I need to go back to the apple store since my warranty recently expired.
Hmm... Just a light touch is required and then the count down should start.

No , I have not had any improvements. Mine is also out of warranty and haven’t not taken in to have evaluated.
