I forgot my user password

I have a MacBook Pro that I haven’t used in a while and I moved since last using it so I have a different WiFi. I forgot the password. When I try to reset with my Apple ID it won’t connect to server. I just want to do a hard reset or reset password. At the moment I feel like I’ve tried everything I’ve researched. Anyone that can help I’d appreciate it.
