Esim with 14pro in Spain

I am in Spain till March 29. I waited a month to receive my 14pro before leaving. It is unlocked and bought directly from the Apple web site.

I was told that the Esim works like the old physical sim when I go to Spain. NOT! The Spanish carriers will not sell eSim to me since I bought the phone in the US and am not a resident with a Spanish bank account. I WAS LIED TO BY APPLE. I can use the internet and call with VOIP. I did call Apple US to ask about my problem and to seek any relief. The "senior advisor". was clueless.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and have come up with a remedy.

If you’re with Verizon use this thing.

But 2 months in Spain gave me this result. It’s not $600. Also this is not only limited to Spain, you can use this international plan in any of the authorized countries even if you visit 20 countries in 2 months it will stay at $100/month.

If I travel I pay AT&T to have access to my full account features and number when travelling. Yes it’s 10$ per day (Limited to 100$ per month) but I’d rather pay that than doing work while on vacation. I never understood why people SIM swap even before the eSIM.

Glad that works for you. I really don't want to pay $600 for my 2 months here. I don't Verizon has that $200 cap.

I regret trading in my older iPhone with a SIM card slot. Thanks for the response. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks. I can get a data only esim. The issue is being away from a wifi connection. I have WhatsApp for local calls and Vonage to the US. The problem is local calls to folks without WhatsApp. good suggestion but I have looked into this already.

The only other way is to buy a data only eSIM if you can find one and then create a WhatsApp account. Or try Wi-Fi calling, but I’ve never tried Wi-Fi calling outside of the USA.

$200 is better than $600 for sure but seems much higher than physical SIM cards. I think Apple should have been more upfront about the difference.
