Itunes

When my phone updated, all of my downloaded music from iTunes disappeared. I had to take all my CD’s & put them back in iTunes. But now since iTunes isn’t supported anymore, how do I get that music back on my iPhone?

That's not true, iTunes is still supported. If you have installed iTunes on your computer, there is no reason why it is not still there - and working.

So the question are:

  1. do you have iTunes installed on your (Windows) computer?
  2. does it work?
  3. have you tried connecting your iPhone to your iTunes Library? If so, what happened? If not, why not (have you previously connected to this specific installation of iTunes on that computer)?

If you do not have iTunes installed on your computer, it can still be downloaded, but you will need to ensure you download the correct version for your version of Windows:

Windows 10 & Windows 11 - iTunes - Apple

Windows 7 - iTunes 12.10.11 for Windows (Windows 64 bit)

Have you chosen any Sync options? Until you do, the Sync will take place but nothing will be added to the your device.

In addition, there can be a couple of reasons why the Sync option is greyed out:

    1. the phone is being backed up, prior to the Sync taking place
    2. the Sync is actually in progress

Look at the screenshot below, which shows five views of iTunes while it is performing a Sync (on two different iPods):

You will notice that there are two separate iPods shown here, and that each picture shows a different stage of the full Sync process. Notice also that "Step 5" has two different messages accompanying it:

    • Waiting for changes to be applied
    • Copying 20 of 22...

and that's on the same iPod (the 119.21GB one).

If you look at the larger pictures, showing the other iPod (the 14.91GB one), you will notice that one shows the Sync button greyed out, while the other has a button named Apply in the same place, but at a different time. This means that you need to check the top window in order to understand what iTunes is doing and that may offer you an explanation of why the Sync button is greyed out (i.e. a Sync is in progress).

But don't forget that you also need to set some Sync options, which you do by selecting the Device/Settings/Music pane (1.) on the left of your iTunes window and turning on the Sync Music option (marked as 2. below, but make sure you read on below the screenshot here):

  • If you select to synchronise the Entire music library (3.), you will not see any of the section numbered 4 in the picture
  • If you select to synchronise selected playlists, artists, albums and genres (3.), section 4. appears and you need to select the items that you want to be added by this Sync

I think you're looking in the wrong place. Do not look on the File menu:

That will take you to the Device View posted previously, as shown below:

In my iTunes Library, the File/Device/Sync option is always greyed out, but I use Wi-Fi Sync and have two iPods connected to iTunes, which possibly explains that.

If you are still not getting anywhere, please post a screenshot of your iTunes screen, showing what you do see.

Hello. Yes, iTunes is installed on my laptop. I can see my music & play it via the laptop. I haven’t connected my phone to this laptop in the past, but when I plug my phone into it, it shows my iPhone as my “device.” It even did the latest update version to my phone. But it won’t let me sync my music to my phone. Sync is shaded grey. I’m logged in on both under my Apple ID. My phone only has the music I have downloaded via the iTunes Store.
