160GB iPods Classic won't mount in iTunes or Finder.

I have 4 Classic 160gb iPods. Two were working fine until I tried adding a new playlist of mp3 stories. About ½ way through they each disconnected. After trying to get 'em to work, I reformatted them using disk utility. Now, when I plug 'em in, all either one does is mount for a second then unmount. Not enough time to do anything with them.

Music is set to manually synch only.

Safe Mode has same results.

Disk mode - both mount, then dismount in <1 second.

My 4th iPod has never been used, so I mounted it with the OE never used cord and it worked & loaded fine.

Used the new cord on the two failed ones makes no difference.

Here's the disk diagnosis ...

Zero pending sectors is the key metric here. Now you need to restore the firmware to the iPod. This should be done using iTunes, or Finder in macOS 10.15 Catalina or later. It may help to put the device in disk mode if it will do so. See also the section on DFU restore mode in Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community.
