superdive won't record entire CD

Hello all!

When trying to record CDs that have max info on them, my Superdrive records most of the tracks with no problem, but simply ejects the CD before recording the last track or two. I've even tried just recording the last track or two separately, but it still just ejects the CD. It' like it can't, or won't, read data (aka songs) past a certain point.

What's up with dat?

MacBook Air M1 2020 8 Gig - bought Superdrive at the same time - Yeah, my SW is up-to-date.... v13.1

Thanks,

Dean

Hi Dean,

Thx, that clarifies.

The only setting in Music that may help is the error correction. If you haven't already, try the classic Apple advice:

"If the “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs” checkbox isn’t selected, select it. If it’s already selected, deselect it."

Beyond that, the problem is likely outside the scope of Music, e.g., the condition of the CD, or a quirk in the drive. If it is a home-burned CD, be aware that they are often more finicky than a commercially pressed CD.

Hi deanray,

For help with creating CDs, view the formats you can use with the information below found in the article here: Create CDs and DVDs in Music on Mac - Apple Support

"Create CDs and DVDs in Music on Mac

You can create these types of discs in Music:

  • Audio CDs: You can play these discs on any standard CD player.

  • MP3 CDs: You can play these discs on MP3-capable CD players or your computer. To burn an MP3 CD, all the songs on it must be in MP3 format. If your playlist includes songs in other formats, such as songs purchased from the iTunes Store, you need to convert them to MP3 format before you can burn them on a CD.

  • Data CDs and DVDs: You can use these discs to store and transfer files."

There's additional details for double-checking the format in the guide here: If you have problems burning a disc in Music on Mac - Apple Support

Additionally, there's been a couple of updates released the latest at the time of this posting being macOS 13.2.1. You can update and test the issue as well. If needed, the article here has steps to help update: Update macOS on Mac

If the issue continues test creating the CD in a new administrator user account. Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

Cheers.

Dean,

Apologies, but I can't tell what you are doing there. When you say "recording," are you burning tracks from a playlist to an audio CD? Or are you ripping tracks from an already-burned audio CD into files? (Or something else?)

Either way, please note that a standard 700 MB CD-R can "nominally" hold 80 minutes of audio when burned as a audio CD. However, pushing to the limit often creates issues at the high-numbered tracks. If there is a way to limit things to around 74 minutes, you can avoid lots of problems.

If I am missing your question, pls clarify.

Yeah, sorry - I could have been a bit clearer....

I'm trying to rip a CD to my HD, so I can make a copy. The recorded CD is a standard Red Book CD with 12 tracks - 59 minutes. When I originally tried to rip it, it only copied the first ten tracks, and a part of track 11. I then tried to rip only tracks 11 and 12. 11 worked and 12 was now a partial. I tried to rip only track 12 multiple times and it only reads maybe 1-2 min of a 5:47 track - it just gets to a point and spits out the CD. I juts tried it again and it ripped 3:12 of the track.

This has happened on other CDs, but typically when they ave upwards of 70+ minutes..

Just a bit weird.. hopes this helps and you can figure out a way to fix it...

Thanks!

Dean
