<Kernel.log>
unplug all third party peripherals and test and compare your results.
Than trouble shoot further:
—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support
This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
—A SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Login and test. Reboot as normal and test.
This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
If no issues than you have successfully narrowed it down to the third party peripherals:
<externat screen via HDMI, a mini dock: Hyperdrive Duo USB-C Multi Adapter 7-i-2>
Go from there.

Great - thanks for prompt reply - the steps seem logical - will try starting with removing the third party "stuff".....
