4TB SSD SanDisk Extreme external hard drive not mounting on Ventura

I recently purchased two 4TB SSD SanDisk Extreme external hard drives. I tried suggested troubleshooting such as upgrading the MacOS, also formatted the disks in APFS and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formats. Regardless of the format the disks work two or three times after copying files or making a time machine backup, but then they stop mounting.

Hi Janos-MAC,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! The steps from the guide below can help with this issue:

Mount a volume that’s been ejected using Disk Utility on Mac

In the Disk Utility app  on your Mac, select the volume you want to mount.
Click the Mount button .
You can also make an external volume available by disconnecting the external device from your Mac, then reconnecting it.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Hey there Janos-MAC,

Have you tried booting into recovery and running First Aid on your external drive there? This could have an impact on this. Here’s how:

1. “Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window. Click the gear icon labeled Options, then click Continue.

2. You may be asked to select a user you know the password for. Select the user, then click Next and enter their administrator password.

3. From the utilities window in macOS Recovery, select Disk Utility and click Continue.”

Also, try using another cable to connect your device. That could also affect this. You can find more steps that can help here:

Take care.
