library/trial taking huge space, and triald using 35-55% of CPU

I have a 2017 iMac that has user information which has been transferred through multiple computers over time as I upgraded macs and OS versions. I am seeing two things and could not get clarity from other threads on the discussion boards.

Here are the two issues (the first being the most important at the moment)

1) The ~/library/trial folder is taking up 12GB of disk space. Predominately in a folder called "v6/tmp" which has 2.9 million items in it (yes, that is correct). Some files go back to Dec 1, 2022 others are in folders that start with "delete.." but all show accessed and have multiple folders under them.

Question - is it safe to delete this TMP folder contents, or how do I reduce this disk space usage

2) triald uses high CPU - 35-55% while it doesn't really seem to affect things, is there anything I can do?
