Has anyone successfully connected their MBP to an iiyama ProLite XUB2792HSU-W1 27" external monitor?

I just bought this monitor and it won't connect to my MBP 2017 (running Monterey 12.5.1) and I keep getting an error message on the monitor saying "Signal cable not connected" but I've got it connected via the USB cable to my USB-C port on the laptop (via a USB-USB-C adapter).

The monitor didn't come with a VGA cable that all monitors usually come with, just USB and a dual ended HDMI.

Is there anything I can try in order to get this to work?

Or should I be trying to find a VGA to USB-C or HDMI to USB-C (if these even exist)?

Any help appreciated!!

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″

what model-year MacBook Pro?

Using On-screen-display options in the display itself, make certain the display is set to receive its input on the correct input.

The information I can find online says:

Signal inputVGA x1 (1920 x 1080 @60Hz)

HDMI x1 (1920 x 1080 @75Hz)

DisplayPort x1 (1920 x 1080 @75Hz)

USB HUBx2 (v.2.0)

no mention of a USB input for display data.
