Without discussing the collectability of or the nostalgia value of or the usefulness of or other such details, Apple will not remove Activation Lock from an iPhone without sufficient proof of ownership. Proof such as the original purchase receipt from Apple or from an Apple reseller showing the iPhone 5c serial number or IMEI. Without sufficient evidence, you will have a static exhibit.

The 5C is not worth anything. It is a 10 year old phone, and cannot be used on any network in the US because it only connects to 3G networks, and there are none left in the US, and very few left in the rest of the world. Apple classifies it as “obsolete”, which means it is neither software or hardware supported.

Your iPhone 5C is not worth $250. Someone on eBay is selling one for $29 and even that seems a little high.

The battery is most likely bad and the highest iOS you can run is 10.3.4. Hardly any apps will run on that old an operating system.

Actually, that phone is worth pretty much $0. It's no longer usable as a phone in the US at all and is also not usable as a phone in many other countries.

Your question was about Activation Lock. That decision is up to Apple. As users.....just like you.... we have no inside information or understanding about the goings on and policies at Apple.

Sorry, but there is no help here. If you want an answer from Apple, you will have to go to Apple.

Then take it up with Apple.

No one here can do anything about it.

There is no other way to bypass activation lock.

You would have to ask Apple. This is a user forum. We are not privy to the reasoning behind Apple's decisions.

Well you can try to argue that point all day long. The reality of it is, it's not worth anything. Look on eBay, people are selling them for $25 - $35.
