I purchased an audiobook from iTunes. It will not play on my child's Yoto player

I purchased an audiobook from iTunes with the intention of playing it for my child on their Yoto Player. The audiobook will not play in it's current format. When I try to convert it to an MP3 I get a message saying it cannot be converted because it is protected. Can I not use my audiobook on a non-apple device even though I purchased it? Is there a way to convert it?

Windows, Windows 10

No. Audiobooks from the iTunes Store are delivered with DRM limiting their use to Apple software and hardware. You might purchase from alternate stores in future. If this was a recent purchase you could ask for a refund via https://reportaproblem.apple.com/ as the item isn't suitable for your intended purpose, namely putting it on your child's device.
