After upgrading to MacOS Ventura my Mail.app was exceptionally slow. Could take tens of seconds to open an email and seconds to scroll. I tried rebuilding mailboxes, uninstalling the one plugin I had installed (GPG Mail) and restarting in safe mode but none of those worked.

And now it works back at normal speed. Haven't reinstalled the plugin yet.
Thank you, Jay Daley, for your information about how to fix slow Mail. It seems to have worked but I'm getting a few hitches. What do you do with the 3 'envelope' files that I removed from the Library... put them back into Mail Data or delete them..? I'm also getting alerts from Mail saying "the message xxx could not be moved to the mailbox xxx (my mailbox name)"...?
Thanks for this! Can we assume that once we complete the import, we should lock down the V10 folder and its contents? Do the contents get the "Apply to enclosed items..." once we relock "V10"?

I forgot to say, I tried importing before doing the permissions reset (step 3) and the import failed with an error message about not enough space available, despite having tens of GB free.
I tried this. It is still taking ten to twelve seconds for mail to start.
UPDATE: I made one additional step. I deleted the GPG Plugin. Now mail works properly.
Thanks. One other thing I did that noticeably improved mail responsiveness, was to change the sort order of my inbox (100k messages) from older messages on the top to newer messages on the top.
I'm getting the same message despite have tens of GB free too...!!?
I deleted those three files after I was sure my mail was working correctly without them. Sorry, but I don't know about the other alert.

I follow all the steps but at the end there is the message "Import failed".
I tried several time but it doesn't work and now I have Mail blocked and I cannot open it.
What I can do??
Im just not going to use the client on my macbook.
Unfortunately its harder on my iphone.
Next time I get a new phone ill just get a Samsug or something.
