Create PDF

The Quick Action "Create PDF" in Finder worked until I updated to Ventura 13.2.1 - now it tells me that "there was a problem running the action" Has anyone else having this problem?

Don't know if it is connected, but my Adobe Acrobat quit combining files when I updated to Ventura.

The problem with the Create PDF action in Automator is that it was built using Python code, and when Apple removed the obsolete Python 2 interpreter from Monterey 12.3 some of those actions were left orphaned.

hmm... works for me in macOS 13.2 Intel (I tried it also on FAT formatted volume).

I selected 21 .jpg files in a folder > right click > QuickActions > Create PDF → a .pdf named after the 1st .jpg is correctly created with .jpg files in the correct order in the .pdf.

Do you have any 3rd party add-ons that might intervene? An EtreCheck report could be helpful:

See attached for the console log. A new diagnostic report is generated in the Console app every time "Create PDF" fails. Looks like the process BackgroundShortcutRunner is the one crashing, which is part of Shortcuts / the old Workflow app

I did that with the Acrobat but it didn't help. Since the Create PDF action was working in Finder I wasn't worried But now that isn't working either. I can't uninstall Finder can I? I did try relaunching Finder but it didn't help. Or can I uninstall Create PDF? I will look at that. Thanks.

The Create PDF Quick Action on macOS 13.2.1 works just fine when selecting mulitple PDFs to combine. It used to create a random name for the result but now it attempts to create the same named PDF as the first selected, and instead of overwriting it, it creates a version 2 of it in the Finder.

It works for me on intel (MBP 16”) and Apple Silicon (Mac Studio M1 Max). I did migrate my account from one to the other, and had the Service from before.

There is a shortcut for creating pdf in the Shortcuts application, but I failed to make it work. It could be user error, as I am not yet very handy with Shortcuts.

The Create PDF Quick Action works fine for me on my M2 Mac Mini Pro with Ventura 13.2.1, and either of my M1 MBP M1 Pro or 2020 Intel Core i7 iMac running macOS 12.6.3.

I see no problem for Apple to fix, but that does not rule out something that you may have added to macOS that causes conflict with Create PDF.

Thanks for this. I created 2 shortcuts. 1 to combine to PDF and save into the parent directory of original files, and one to split a PDF into multiple pages into the parent directory or original PDF. Both accessible from Quick Actions. Works great, only downside is Shortcuts asks for permission for parent directory if it hasn't received authorization for that folder before. For Desktop, I imagine this happens once, but it could get a little annoying. The alert requesting permission does respond to a press of the return key though.
