I can no longer attach files from iPad files and folders to gmail.

For some reason between January 2023 and February 2023 I’ve lost the ability to attach into a gmail email files such as a PDF document which I’ve saved into my iPads file folders from a word processing app.

last month it worked fine. I would click the little paper clip icon when composing an email and it would give me the option to attach photos or files. This month I can attach photos but not files stored on my iPad. The only files I can attach are previous attachments.

I looked in the Gmail app settings and there is no place for me to give the Gmail app permission to access the files on my iPad. There is a place for me to give it permission to access photos on my iPad, but I’m not trying to attach photos I’m trying to attach PDF documents.

I recently transitioned away from using a laptop, non-Apple, to using my new iPad to compose word processing documents and then email them to the people who needed to receive them. I do this task at least once a month, and unless I can fix this issue it would appear I’m going to have to go back to using a PC to do this single task.

How do I give the Gmail app permission to access the files on my iPad so that I can share them with other people?

Hi Christopher_Parisho,

You may want to contact Google directly or post your question in a forum more specific toward the Gmail application. However, if you also use the built-in Mail app here's some information that should be helpful:

"Scan and attach a document to an email

You can scan a paper document and send it as a PDF.

  1. Tap in the email where you want to insert the scanned document, then tap the Insert Photo or Video Actions button above the keyboard.
  2. Tap Scan Document., then position iPad so that the document page appears on the screen—iPad automatically captures the page.
  3. To capture the page manually, tap the Take Picture button or press a volume button. To turn the flash on or off, tap the Show Flash Settings button.
  4. Scan additional pages, then tap Save when you’re done.
  5. To make changes to the saved scan, tap it, then do any of the following:"
