iPhone 14 Pro 240fps Slo Mo recording incorrect fps

iPhone 14 Pro is recording "240fps" at odd framerates, resulting in jittery playback.

I've seen random framerates like 114fps, 227fps, etc, but not 240fps. This was working with my previous phone (iPhone 11 Pro) - it seems Apple has broken this entire mode.

Good afternoon ramzifromchicago,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are getting random frame rates when recording slow motion on your iPhone 14 Pro , and we'd like to help.

Can you provide a little more information about what you are experiencing?

  • When did you notice this happening on your iPhone 14 Pro?

  • Has your iPhone 14 Pro been updated to iOS 16.3.1?

  • Do you have any issues recording Slo-mo in other settings, like 1080p HD at 120 fps or 1080p HD at 240 fps (High Efficiency)?

Your responses to these questions will help us understand the issue better and work towards a resolution with you.

We suggest quitting the Camera app and force restarting your iPhone to refresh the device settings.

Then test the other Slo-mo settings and the Quick toggle option (see below) to adjust the frame rate while recording.

The resources below may help you address this issue:

Record videos with your iPhone camera - iPhone User Guide

"Record a slow-motion video

When you record a video in Slo-mo mode, your video records as normal and you see the slow-motion effect when you play it back. You can also edit your video so that the slow-motion action starts and stops at a specific time.

  1. Open Camera, then select Slo-mo mode.
  2. On iPhone 11 models, iPhone 12 models, iPhone 13 models, and iPhone 14 models, you can tap the Camera Chooser Back-Facing button to record in Slo-mo mode with the front camera.
  3. Tap the Record button or press either volume button to start recording.
  4. You can tap the Shutter button to take a still photo while recording.
  5. Tap the Record button or press either volume button to stop recording.

To set a portion of the video to play in slow motion and the rest at regular speed, tap the video thumbnail, then tap Edit. Slide the vertical bars below the frame viewer to define the section you want to play back in slow motion.

Depending on your model, you can change the slow motion frame rate and resolution. To change slow-motion recording settings, go to Settings  > Camera > Record Slo-mo.

Tip: Use quick toggles to adjust the video resolution and frame rate while you record. See Use quick toggles to change video resolution and frame rate."

If the issue persists, please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

Hello ramzifromchicago,

It sounds like your videos are being recorded in inconsistent frame rates. Check under Settings > Camera > Record Video to see if Auto FPS is turned on. If it is, temporarily disable that setting and record another video to see if that resolved the issue. Check here for more information: Change the camera’s video recording settings on iPhone - Apple Support.

Take care.

This issue has been in effect since I purchased the phone. Power cycling the unit briefly resolves the issue, before it occurs again. It occurs on all slow motion modes, regardless of whether the video is captured in HEVC or H.264.

This is apparently a very well documented bug with slow-motion video, starting with iPhone 12, that Apple has still not addressed:
