Sidecar resolution is too high

Hi there.

I recently updated my iMac to Ventura and since doing so, when I use my iPad Air (M1) 2022 as a sidecar monitor, the resolution is way too high and un useable. Everything appears really tiny when I've set it to Extended Display.

When I was using MacOS 11 (Big Sur) I had no issues and the resolution was correct and sidecar was useable.

Is there a way to 'correct' the resolution of the iPad resolution when using sidecar? As you can see from my pic, sidecar isn't using the full height of the iPad screen, which it was doing prior to updating to Ventura and the next is far to small to read

I honestly wish I did not upgrade!

Hi Sanj279,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that the resolution of your iPad is too high when connected to your Mac.

You can adjust the resolution of your Mac, but the iPad doesn't include a feature to adjust its resolution. You can learn more about adjusting the resolution of your Mac here: Change your Mac display’s resolution - Apple Support

"Change your Mac display’s resolution

Your display’s resolution determines the size of text and objects on your screen. By default, your Mac automatically uses the best resolution for the display. While it’s best to use the default resolution, you can manually set the resolution to make text and objects appear larger on your screen, or adjust it to make text and objects appear smaller so you have more space on your screen.

Set the resolution for your primary display

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Select a resolution.

Note: If you’re using a desktop computer or an external display and see a thumbnail view of the available resolutions, you can switch to a list view. Control-click the thumbnail view and choose Show List. To switch back to the thumbnail view, Control-click the list view and choose Show Thumbnail.

Set the resolution for a connected display

If you have more than one display, additional resolution options are available after the other display is connected.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Select the display you want to adjust, then select the resolution you want to use.

You may be able to turn on “Show all resolutions” to see additional resolutions for the display."

Take care!

Hello Sanj279,

Have you checked to be sure your iPad is running the latest software version, which is iPadOS 16.3.1. You can check that in Settings > General > About. If you don't see iPadOS 16.3.1 listed there, we'd suggest updating your iPad to see if that helps with the behavior you've noticed with Sidecar. Learn more about updating your iPad here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

You'll also want to make sure your Mac is updated to the latest version of macOS Ventura, which is macOS Ventura 13.2.1. You can view the currently installed version by going to the Apple menu () > About This Mac. This link provided step-by-step instructions for updating your Mac, should you need them: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

If you've ensured both devices are updated, try restarting your Mac and iPad, then set up Sidecar again. The links below will show you how, if needed:

Also, in the photo you provided, it doesn't look like you have a direct, physical connection from your iPad to your Mac. If you connect them to one another via USB, does that make a difference?

You can use Sidecar wirelessly, but to keep your iPad charged during use, connect it directly to your Mac with the USB charge cable that came with your iPad.
