Attempt to sanitize for resale.
Error message during erase claimed erase not possible with other activity still running. So I powered off the power switch and attempted reboot. But, no longer can see boot drive.
Still have original Apple 1TB drive as secondary

You'll likely need to restart the Mac in Recovery and reinstall the OS.

Does Disk Utility see the Samsung SSD? If it does, is it still formatted correctly? How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility - Apple Support
If the answers above are both “yes”, if you included the external drive in a Time Machine backup, you should be able to restore the information: Restore your Mac from a backup - Apple Support
