"More info" missing for jpg files - why??

"More info" missing for jpg files

I need to quickly see the pixel dimensions of jpg files, but this area is sometimes blank with just "--" in the space where it should be displayed.

Why isn't this working like it should be?

While in a Finder Window, press cmd+J and then select Show item info. That will put the image dimensions below the icon's filename if in Icon View (cmd+1).
