How do I reset my old iPhone, that once was set to only be on Telus?

How do I get an iPhone reset that is locked to Telus? I would like to give this phone to my nephew?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

See this Apple article: How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier

How to unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier - Apple Support

  • Apple can't unlock your iPhone for use with a different carrier. Only your carrier can unlock your iPhone.

You need to contact your carrier Telus.

Normally (in the EU) after 2 years the consumer has the right to ask that the carrier unlock the iPhone.

So ask your carrier Telus.

After the iPhone is unlocked by Telus, see -> -> this Apple article: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then have to remove the iPhone from your account, see this Apple article:

Check your Apple ID device list to see where you're signed in

Then your nephew can sign in with his own Apple ID.
