Why do iCloud Photos take so long to upload? Any ways to make it faster?

I have gigabit internet where I live, and it has taken about 5 hours to get about 7.5GB of photos uploaded, and my iPhone is only uploading at about 1.2MB/s out of the 100+ it's allowed according to my router. I've left it on and unlocked on the photos app to try and make it upload faster, but no luck. Any ideas on how to make it go faster for when I need to offload photos again?

(Quick edit, ran a speedtest on the phone, it is able to use 750Mbps both ways while uploading the photos at the same time...)

B. Restart your Router:

Power off your router for 30 seconds, and then power it back on.

I know it can't be the iPhone's WiFi speeds as my router was reporting 1200Mbps link speeds with it, and the iPhone was getting ~700Mbps on Speedtest, it would seem my issue lies squarely with iCloud Photos on the device because it took maybe 2 hours to do 15,000 pictures totaling ~100GB on a Mac i had laying around, but I wasn't able to use it to upload these. The upload is finished already, just looking for a way to maybe speed it up in the future. I did, however clear Safari's cache, but haven't noticed much of a difference.

"Weird thing, i've just restarting my phone, and it is now slowly shrinking, looks like it stopped around 16.3GB. Any ways to clear it without restoring from a backup?"

Cleaning Other:

No. This is all caches. So, restoring your iPhone from a backup is the only way to perform this. All is fine. This is just junk and it has no role on your iPhone.

"Alright, I'll do that when I get around to it, just wish iTunes would let you store backups somewhere other than in your Documents folder on Windows."

Adding Genres to iTunes Library:

As of the date of your post, Documents is where it is stored. So, recommend to Apple that they make it be somewhere else.

So, Recommend this to Apple:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iTunes - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" fro the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that you want Document to no be the location to store items and why. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
