Siri using WhatsApp instead of iMessage

While on vacation I used WhatsApp to phone home. Now every time I ask Siri to text my partner she automatically wants to use WhatsApp. This isn’ something that happened before and I don’t want to use WhatsApp for a regular iMessage. What do I need to do to change this?

Siri doesn't read content of new Whatsapp messages I had been using WhatsApp with Siri for a long time without any problems, that worked perfectly. Now I have a new cell phone (iPhone 15) and updates from iOS and WhatsApp (including privacy messages, etc.). When I ask Siri to read new messages, it detects them (“There are x new messages in Y groups”), but the content is not read aloud. Instead, I immediately get “Would you like to reply?” When my phone is upside down on a table, I do get the content read aloud immediately when a message arrives (but not on request): “Someone says: [message content].” Note: everything still works normal for text messages via SMS. Is this a privacy setting that I need to change if I just want to ask for messages to be read aloud again? Any suggestions? Thank in advance!

I suggest you use the exact words "Hey Siri please send iMessage to ...."

Thanks. I’ve done that and it works, but never had to specify before. Just wondering if there is a reason it switched. I did call and text using WhatsApp while I was away. Perhaps that’s why.

Probably, Siri tries to remember, not always convenient though.
