Airpods renamed by someone else

How is it possible that my airpods is renamed by someone else? It is not like a 'Phil's Airpods', so that you can say it connected to someone else's iPhone etc. but it was renamed to really stupid name. It is obvious that someone was messing with me. But I am wondering how that was possible.

Hello JessS19,

We can only surmise how your AirPods name was changed. One possibility is that a friend or family member found your AirPods, connected them to their device and changed the name. Another that’s familiar in Apple Support Communities is that you purchased a set of used AirPods that weren’t reset completely.

This is why we were only able to provide the steps to correct the issue: Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

Take care.

Greetings baha027,

In order to rename your AirPods, the following steps must be completed:

  1. "Open your charging case.
  2. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > AirPods.
  3. Tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods.
  4. Tap the current name.
  5. Enter a new name for your AirPods.
  6. Tap Done." Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro

This means the AirPods would need to be paired to change the name. We hope this helps!

Sincerely.
