Trouble with usb devices when using USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter with usb c extension

I recently got a USB C extender to use with my macbook pro. When I plug the multiport adapter into it the power and video works perfect but anything plugged into the usb a port on the multiport adapter doesn't get recognized by the laptop at first. If unplug the extender and plug it back in a few time it eventually picks it up but I would like it work more consistently.

Anyone know if there is anything I can do to fix this?

Also the extender doesn't work correctly unless you plug the multiport

hub in the correct orientation but I have tested for that and the wrong

way does not pass video through at all so I have that set up correctly.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.1

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand the cable purchased is not being detected immediately when connected to your Mac. According to the description of the cable from Amazon, this cable with not work with a hub using Thunderbolt 3. We'd advise on simply connecting the multipart adapter directly into your computer or finding a different cable to ensure it connects and is detected immediately.
