Are the charger cables scented now?

I just got a new MacBook Air for work. When I unpackaged it, I instantly noticed that the charging cable seems to be perfumed. It has a faint fresh, fruity aroma. It sounds trite, but it smells like an apple note. The two gray apple stickers that come in the sleeve with the Essentials booklet also appear to be scented with the same fragrance.

I'm super interested in learning more about this design choice, as well as confirming I'm not simply losing my mind.
