images appearing as blank message bubbles

I just get a blank bubble. No image. I have tried restarting my phone. Did not work. Turning iMessage, mms, etc, off - did not work. It’s only from one person, who has an iPhone. I can’t change this persons phone type in contacts. Normally switching from mobile to iPhone. Does not exist. None of these methods mentioned in the forum have worked for me. Frustrating.

Anyone have another solution to this, my son’s phone is doing this and it’s not in lockdown mode. When I send him a picture it first has the red exclamation like it didn’t work then it quickly changes to Deliveree, and even Read, when he sees it—but it only shows on his end as a blank text bubble.

This helped with my wife's phone. Suddenly started doing this. Tried turning off/on iMessage, MMS, cellular, changing the image type in the camera, and finally got back to step 1 of 95% of tech issues: "Did you try restarting it?" *Epic Facepalm*

Ok I was having the same problem and lockdown wasn’t on and resetting didn’t do anything. What ended up working for me was I went into settings > messages and then turned iMessage, SMS, and MMS off and back on again. Hope this helps someone!

This is what we ended up doing and it did work. With so many other solutions that I had googled I was sure it wasn't going to be as simple as a restart, but glad it was.

A restart did not work for me either! Very frustrated!!

i’m having the exact same issue… but restarting hasn’t worked! it’s also not on lockdown mode… anyone have any other suggestions?

Probably you have enabled Lockdown mode.

How Lockdown Mode protects your device

When Lockdown Mode is enabled, some apps and features will function differently, including:

• Messages - Most message attachment types are blocked, other than certain images, video, and audio. Some features, such as links and link previews, are unavailable. 
• Web browsing - Certain complex web technologies are blocked, which might cause some websites to load more slowly or not operate correctly. In addition, web fonts might not be displayed, and images might be replaced with a missing image icon.
• FaceTime - Incoming FaceTime calls are blocked unless you have previously called that person or contact.
• Apple services - Incoming invitations for Apple services, such as invitations to manage a home in the Home app, are blocked unless you have previously invited that person.
• Shared Albums - Shared albums are removed from the Photos app, and new Shared Album invitations are blocked. You can still view these shared albums on other devices that don’t have Lockdown Mode enabled. When you turn off Lockdown Mode, you need to turn Shared Albums on again in your device settings.
• Device connections - To connect your iPhone or iPad to an accessory or another computer, the device needs to be unlocked. To connect your Mac laptop with Apple silicon to an accessory, your Mac needs to be unlocked and explicit approval provided.
• Configuration profiles - Configuration profiles can’t be installed, and the device can’t be enrolled in Mobile Device Management or device supervision while in Lockdown Mode.

Phone calls and plain text messages continue to work while Lockdown Mode is enabled. Emergency features, such as SOS emergency calls, are not affected. 

I’m inclined to agree with the person that noted the state of being with Apple and iPhones and I am about to decide that it may be best to try another company and see if they have enabled lockdown and are unable to help me with the abundance of difficulties that I have had with the last four iPhones in as many years or less

I an having the same issue - when going into voicemail. It started in August or September 2023. Many blank messages, mixed in with real messages on my iphone 13. Also, voice mail button does not indicate that I have messages. I check periodically, and end up picking up my messages late! Rebooting does not fix this. I find iphones are degrading in quality over time.

I have received Text message with bubbles and I don’t know how to open the pictures. I have an iPhone 11.
