How to scan text on iPhone instead of paste?

Let's temporarily disable the Live Text option under the Settings > General > Language & Region menu to see if that behavior still persists. That will help us to isolate this further.

Additionally, does this only occur with GIFs that contain text, or does this also occur with GIFs that don't contain any text?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward from there.

Unfortunately, the only thing that works for me is to close out apps and restart my device. I don’t encounter this problem often, but it seems like a bug to me that Apple has not fixed yet.

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

This is because you can now copy text from photos and videos as outlined here:

"Copy text in a photo, video, or image

1. Open the Photos app and select a photo or video, or select an image online.
2. Touch and hold a word and move the grab points to adjust the selection. If the text is in a video, pause the video first.
3. Tap Copy. To select all of the text in the photo, tap Select All.

After you copy the text, you can paste it in another app or share it with someone. To highlight all text in a photo or image, select a photo or image, then tap the Live Text button  in the lower-right corner of the photo.

In iOS 16 and later, you can also isolate the subject of a photo and copy or share it through apps like Messages or Mail."

When I copy, paste it on my note pad, then copy it from there, then sometimes it works.

This a big issue, I am trying to copy names using my iphone ie.. like a Rx name that is long from my pharmacist app. I want to copy and paste it to safari and you CANNOT. IT ONY STATES "SCAN TEXT". I have tried turning off the "Live Text" in Language and Region. I also tried toggling off "Show detected Text" in Camera.

Please Help, Nothing seems to work!

All I’m trying to do is copy and paste text into the Ical calendar from an email and I can’t because the option to paste is gone. This is terrible. What is the fix? I’m not interested in scanning text I just want to paste what I copied!

I have the same problem on my new iPhone 13 mini. I tried disabling the live text feature, but it still won’t paste when I double tap into a message.

Yes can’t paste no matter what now with this new feature …..help….

That doesn’t help one bit. When you have something copied you used to be able to tap where you want to paste it to, now it says “scan text” instead of paste. How does one paste what he copied????

I’m having the same issue. When I try to paste something being copied the only thing that shows up is scan text. How do we fix this???? Anyone?….

I disabled live text and now no option comes up when trying to paste into search bar……I’m not seeing any other solutions in this feed?? I need my paste function back.

This is a great feature, for people who want it, but making it the only option, was a moronic idea. I need to copy and paste numbers, and medication names, pretty much daily, as well as addresses and phone numbers, and now I have to write it down so I can remember it, in order to be able to remember it to enter it. This is absolutely ridiculous.

This issue persists. Please help
