MacBook Battery

Hi all,

I've had my 2020 Intel MacBook Pro since Christmas day 2020. My battery health is 86%. Recently I've noticed my Mac can be a little slower than it used to be (not a crazy difference, still tons faster than my ChromeBook which I'm forced to use at school lol). I've found a setting in the battery settings (macOS Monterey) called "Manage battery longevity" and it is currently on. It says "As your battery ages, peak capacity is reduced to extend battery lifespan". Should I turn this off to improve my Mac's performance? Will it affect my battery at all (will it run out of charge quicker?) and will battery health decrease noticeably faster over time?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

No.

I would not turn off Battery Health Management.

at ≤ 80% your battery will require service ...

rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.

your "Mac can be a little slower than it used to be" is a different issue then your battery.

Great, thanks for this info! I didn't know this!
If I always keep my Mac charged (apart from when I'm not near a mains), won't it damage the battery health over time?

When ≤ 80%, why would my battery require service I.e. Do you mean it is compulsory for service, or it is recommended because certain issues start to arise?

?

They do not include BHM software to damage your battery... Let the software work for you.

The battery is guaranteed hardware . Apple does not recognize an issue unless ≤ 80% on a new machine under warranty.

The 86% can actually increase if you use BHM. I would not worry about—follow the rule of thumb.

when your battery needs service it will tell you.
