Why doesn't "Block" work in Apple Mail to move emails automatically into Trash when that option is selected?

My problem is that I have blocked a lot of spam email addresses, and in Preferences, I have selected "When email from blocked address arrives: Move it to the Trash" in "Junk Mail">"Blocked". But even though I have this option selected, Mail never automatically moves these messages to the Trash. Why doesn't this work correctly? I have tried a number of my own troubleshooting things with this such as keeping junk in my Inbox when it arrives, rather than Junk (thinking maybe it'll only move it to Trash if it's in my Inbox, but not if it's in Junk), doing the opposite (telling it to automatically move junk mail to Junk when it arrives, hoping it will then automatically transfer them to Trash), restarting Mail after making changes in Preferences, restarting my whole computer after I make changes in Preferences, checking to see if I can set up a Rule to achieve this instead, and trying to change it at the "iCloud" level of Mail preferences (it wasn't even an option). I also checked this topic in Community first, and although there are several close questions, none that I saw were exactly my question and/or none of the answers helped me. It seems SO simple that this feature of Mail automatically moving mail from Blocked senders to the Trash should work seamlessly. Why isn't it working but more importantly, how can I make this work right!? Thanks!

Agree with pervious Contributor

It has never worked that way in macOS 11 Big Sur or macOS 12 Monterey and never in macOS 13 Ventura.

Although the actually wording say it will it does not

I have a Personal Theory which is Not Based on anything more than a hunch

There are sometimes when a User May have marked a Sender as Blocked.

Then, they discover it was an error or they changed there Mind and want to Un-Unblock the sender.

Had the Blocked Sender message been put to Delete Folder and the Delete Folder was emptied . . . what now ?

You may have lost some important communication ?

Thank you, P. Phillips. It is really helpful to hear the same thing from two different people. It's really annoying that it doesn't work like it's supposed to, but it's nice to have the definitive answer so I can get it off my mind. I see what you're saying on a possible reason, but if Apple is worried that would happen to people and that's why they don't allow the functionality to work, then they shouldn't even have the option for it in the preferences, which can kind of drive people nuts when it doesn't work how it says it's supposed to. For every person like me who actually comes to the Community to ask a question/for help about it, there are probably at least 50 more who have the same problem but would never come to the Community to ask about it. There are probably thousands of people out there wondering why on earth this option doesn't work.

You can hold your breath and hope Apple with Re-Work the wording in Mail >> Junk Mail >> Blocked.

But to honest, double it will be changed in Monterey and for that matter macOS 13 Ventura as it is still worded the same way

As for all those who are pulling their hair out on this wording issue.

There are those who ar not even away of this Blocked issue, some just accept this and move on.

I for one have moved on to more important issues

And I will too, now that I know it doesn't work 😉

Of course I won't hold my breath. It's a pipe dream to think they'd fix such a thing, even though I will say, such faulty functionality is not characteristic of Apple in my experience, so it is odd.

I have used Apple Mail for years but was never interested in using the Block feature until recently because I only just recently started getting slammed with way more junk than I used to get. So I was hoping the Block feature would help me with that.

Have been seeing many User complaint about the increased in Spam over the last moth or so.

Below is only a little something I put together for Informational Purposes Only

The below will not cut down on Spam e-mails nor will it eliminate Spam e-mails.

Though, it may present some insights as to how exposed your e-mail address may be to Bad Actor Spammers.

E-mail addresses are Bought and Sold on the internet for various reasons including Sold to Spammers.

That is how they make their money.

I have done some testing on some personal e-mail addresses as well as on family members e-mail addresses

Was floored by the results.

Some were exposed by Data Breaches from some will Known Software Developers and even from my Own ISP.

You can only mitigate your exposure in the future and deal wth this Spam as an “ After to Fact  “ situation
