Cannot type ` (apostrophe) with any of my keyboards - no such button exists in the new layout on Mac-OS Monterey

I have 2 bluetooth keyboards with US layout - one of them is Apple Magic keyboard, and one from another brand. On both of them the apostrophe (`) is on top left (next to button 1). But the new keyboard layout on OS Monterey changed somehow and now instead of the apostrophe, there is a § sign. And the apostrophe apparently is on some new button on the left side of Z, but my keyboards don't even have such a button! So basically I cannot type an apostrophe with my keyboard. This didn't happen in previous OS...

It is just the ISO keyboard which is used in all European countries with the US input source applied.

That doesn’t appear to be any US layout I have ever seen. If you go to the keyboard system preferences what is set for the input source?

Ok, after deleteing the prefs file, running Keyboar Setup assistant again and restarting my machine, everything works now correctly! thanks!

Your machine thinks your keyboard is the ISO (European) type with the extra key instead of the ANSI (US) type without it. Here are some ideas to fix this Keyboard Type Problem:

you are right - sorry about that. I meant the quotation mark. But I must have it functioning, because the system uses CMND + ` to switch windows and also to switch to numbers in Lithuanian layout for example. It's strange suddenly not to have a basic system function that used to work on all keyboards and it's not anymore...

FWIW, the (`) punctuation mark is not actually an apostrophe but a backquote, left quote, acute, etc. Most use the single quote next to the return key.
