Macbook Pro - TV App is not showing all movies and not playing movies

Hi, I just received a new Macbook Pro (M2 Max) in the mail today. The mac was set up with migration from an older model mac. However, I can only see a few of my movies appearing on my TV app, not every movie I'd purchased. And out of those few movies, they do not play, at all. They simply cause the cursor to turn into a spinning wheel, or the app to crash. I always have to force close the app to try and reopen it.

I have tried re-authorizing the computer, updating the log-in, checking for downloads, and even cleared all the settings from advanced settings but there is absolutely no change. My old mac and my iphone are displaying all movies and playing them fine. Other transfers like music and books are working fine. Seeing as this is literally a day old computer, it shouldn't be having this problem. Any tips?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.2

Hey there Uiido,

Great job taking those troubleshooting steps already! Let's begin with confirming more details to better understand what's happening, along with ruling out some other possible causes:

  1. Have you made sure that you're signed into the same Apple ID for purchased movies as on your older Mac, and iPhone?
  2. Does this occur with movies you only downloaded, or does it also occur with movies you try streaming on the internet within the TV app?
  3. Any issues streaming videos in other services/websites, such as the YouTube website as one example?
  4. Have you tested for the same issue while connected to a different Wi-Fi network?
  5. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  6. We see you have macOS 13.2, but the latest version is macOS 13.2.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!

Hey Uiido,

That's good to know. If you haven't already, check your previous purchases to see if the missing movies appear there for redownload. Here's how: Download previous purchases in the Apple TV app on Mac - Apple Support

For the movies that do appear and will not play, delete one of them and download it again to see if a fresh copy helps. If it does, do that with the other movies that do not play. Here's a guide on deleting those, just in case: Delete movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app - Apple Support

Delete movies and TV shows on your Mac

1. Open the Apple TV app.
2. Click Library at the top of the window, then go to Library in the sidebar to find the item that you want to delete.
3. Move your pointer over the item that you want to delete, then click the More Options button .
4. Click Delete from Library, then confirm when prompted.

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

Hey Bruno75! Thanks for the suggestions.

  1. I have logged into the same account. And to double check I logged into the only other account on my family sharing, but there's no change.
  2. I don't subscribe to apple TV so I can't check for streaming via web browser. I can only see the app on this device.
  3. Youtube, Netflix, Disney+, ect all seem to be streaming fine.
  4. I've connected it to my phone's hotspot and it still wants to crash the app.
  5. I've done a basic restart a few times but haven't seen any difference.
  6. I've since updated to 13.2.1 and still have the same issues.
