My laptop opens with small font lately. Too small to read easily. How do I remedy?

You can use these steps to change the default text size:

On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Select one of the Larger Text options to the left of Default.

If you'd like to adjust the text size while you're using an application, you can just press Command-Plus (+) to increase the size or Command-Minus (–) to decrease the size.
