Clear Font Cache/Ventura

A support tech suggested I clear my font cache to help solve a font issue. I use Font Book for management. Is it better to clear them using Terminal, or third party software?

Just use Terminal. Research the atsutil command. If you believe this is impacting your account, just remove your font caches with:

atsutil databases -removeUser

I recommend first quitting all apps except Terminal. After executing the command, immediately reboot the machine to allow the system to rebuild the font cache. Use man atsutil for full details on the command.

Please be aware, if your font issue(s) is/are that your Adobe apps are no longer showing some fonts, it may be due to the end of support for older PostScript fonts. Rebuilding font caches will not fix this. The latest Adobe CC 2023 version have ended support for the Type1 format. https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/postscript-type-1-fonts-end-of-support.html. This has been a long time coming.

Hope this helps,
