Possible Volume Button Hardware Issue on Brand New Phone

I ordered a brand new iPhone 14 today and after setting it up i believe that i have a defective phone. Now upon receiving the package in the mail the iPhone box itself did look a bit beat up but against better judgement i thought everything would be fine but here comes the issue. The lightest of taps turns the volume button down and when i say light i mean light I was attempting to put my phone in my pocket and somehow the volume went mute immediately after it slightly brushed against my pocket. Little to no pressure would be applied and the volume down button would readjust the volume or even worse just turn the volume off completely. At first, i assumed that maybe it’s a new feature on the phone so i attempted to lightly tap the volume up button but to no avail this appears to be an issue only with the volume down button. After attempting that i i assumed it might possibly be my case putting too much pressure on the volume down button so i took it off and tested the sensitivity of the buttons again and the volume down button is still acting up. Idk what to do. So sorry for the essay but i wanted to be as clear as possible with the issue i’m facing in hopes of finding someone else dealing with this or someone who can help and tbh i wasn’t even gonna mention this issue until i realized just how sensitive the button was being with the pocket issue.

Hey there cheesedoodlezzz,

If a button or switch isn't working on your iPhone or iPad, here are a few steps that might fix the issue. If they don't, you'll need to set up a repair.

1. Remove any protective films or cases that might block the button or switch.
2. Check for debris or dirt around the button or switch and clean with a soft cloth.
3. If the button or switch still isn't working, is damaged, or works intermittently, you can set up a repair.

Since this is a new device and the issue occurred right out of the box, you may want to contact the seller and see if there is an exchange policy that you could use.

Take care.
