Transferring balance from My Suica Card & impact on physical card

Does transferring funds from an existing My Suica card to Apple Wallet simply transfer the funds, or is it canceling the physical card in any way?

The physical card has its uses (being able to load it with physical currency, especially), so I want to make sure I don't accidentally cancel the card's functionality by transferring it over to Apple Wallet.

Is it transferring the CARD or just the funds (or a set amount of funds) from the card?
