iPhone 13 Pro Bluetooth Interference

I've seen this issue floating around on the Community forums about this and everyone seems to have some other reason for it. As my title says, I have an iPhone 13 Pro (iOS 16.3.1) and an Apple Watch Series 6 (WatchOS 9.3.1), and when my iPhone is connected to my car stereo, I'll get dropouts and interference while listening to podcasts on the way to/from work. Now, before you say it's my car stereo that could be the issue, this is happening in FOUR completely different cars. The ONLY thing that is common would be that the cars ranging from 2010 to 2017 use older Bluetooth technology in them. I've been in contact with Tech Support many times and talked with a few senior techs on the phone about this and all of them were stumped and escalated the issue up the tech support chain. I've been dealing with this since the iPhone 13 Pro came out on the market. I didn't have these issues with my previous iPhone 7 Plus. If I connect my iPhone directly to my car stereo via hardwire cable, it's fine but that's not the point here. It's 2023 and I shouldn't have to be connecting hardwired to listen to podcasts/music. Has anyone resolved their issues with Bluetooth and this iPhone?

Just an update.. yes disabling location services fixes the issues with the audio Bluetooth interference when driving.. Hope the next update fixes it as having it disabled is not what i want.. but it did show i was not crazy and the interference happened at certain locations all the time!

I'm wondering if it has to do with battery. Does degraded battery (low % original capacity) mean a weaker bluetooth signal? It's not just iPhone 13. I'm using a 12 mini and have all the same specific symptoms mentioned throughout this thread. It happens when the phone is connected to any bluetooth audio device, Apple or not. And it happens only on my phone, not my MacBook or iPad. The MacBook and iPad models are several years old, but I bought them recently and they have near 100% original battery capacity. However, I've owned my phone for 2 years and it's at 78%. It dipped below 80% right around the time the signal interference/breakdown started getting really bad, and it's only gotten worse since then.

Having this same issue and it seems connected to my POIs, whether that be in apple maps or maybe some other app! Going to try turning location off by app and see if I can narrow it down. SUUUPER frustrating and glad I am not the only one. I have felt like a crazy person for 2 years now on my 13 pro. I think it’s Apple Maps because one time I closed the app and was still having my audio drop when it would have been giving directions. Very annoying around neighborhoods where you are making a lot of turns.

Hello! I’ve been having the same issue for a long time now and have been scratching my head for close to two years without an answer. I finally dug into my location services settings played with a few things based on what was recently recently using my location when my sign was cutting out. I went into “system services” under my “location services” in my settings and I both disabled AND cleared history for my “significant locations”. Since then i haven’t had this issue again. It has only been 2 days but worth looking into!

The issue lies with a design flaw within the iPhones now and the fact that EVERYTHING uses Bluetooth or is some sort of wireless technology which is causing an overload in the signal spectrum. Bluetooth is supposed to have a max range of 30-50 feet but with all the wireless systems out here now, frequency spectrums are overwhelmed. The design flaw lies within the shielding of the phones electronics. Obviously, there’s not enough to protect them anymore. Since getting the iPhone 13 Pro, I get more dropped calls than ever, on top of the Bluetooth issues mentioned here. Basically, going back to wired headphones and car audio is the only solution.

i have been having an issue with my iPhone 13 Pro and my AirPod Pro in low cellular signal strength. My phone keeps dropping my BT connection to my AirPods during a call. Tried switching off Wi-Fi, didn’t help. Cycled power, didn’t help. I work on wireless products, I think they have a design flaw, their Cellular radio’s noise is affecting BT transmissions. Some carrier bands are near the Wi-Fi/BT 2.4G band. If they don’t have the right filtering, noise from the cellular bands can affect BT performance.

For me it happened on my iPhone 13 after the last update. Never had issues before. Pretty sure it's something to do with GPS though because it is always in the same spots.

I am going to try disabling location services next time i drive and i am guessing the issue goes away but ill let you know! It's not a solution but will should help determine that it IS for sure something involving GPS.

I did have this happen once on my iPhone X but i think the next update fixed it because it went away.. hopefully that happens here sooner than later too!

I have the same issue . Apple watch series 7 and iphone 13 pro max. It happens in the only two vehicles i’ve tested and at the same location when driving by. Even if it’s downloaded on my phone. It happens with my airpods pro 2 also. It’s just that i don’t cover as much miles on foot so it’s not as remarkable. This is killing me ! I’ll be tuned into a podcast and just as something important is said , it will jump for a few seconds and i’ll need to rewind. Is there a fix ?

No solution yet! But to agree with you, the issue does always occur at the same spots in my commute to work. Here's the problem, I NEVER had this issue with my iPhone 7 Plus anywhere, just my iPhone 13 Pro. While I do understand as time marches on, more and more Bluetooth and electronic devices are being added, more interference is added, too, BUT, our iPhones are ONLY about 2 inches away from our vehicle entertainment systems. That's some pretty strong interference (in mostly residential areas) to break up a Bluetooth signal with your iPhone being in such close proximity to the car stereo. Apple is yet to figure out what's going on and I've been working with them for almost a year now.

I have this same issue too, just as described. iPhone 13 Pro, AirPods, Apple Watch Series 7 and Carplay in a 2017 BMW 4 series. The only addition is it happened with my previous iPhone 11 also! Walking the dog, I know exactly where I’ll get interference and it drops out briefly before reconnecting. Driving to work, I know exactly where I’ll get interference but the behaviour is different. The audio strangely switches to a single speaker with poor sound quality which I guess is something to do with phone calls or voice activation?!

It’s true. I thought it was an AirPod issue but 1. It happens with other devices (like my Bose speaker) and 2. I’ve noticed that it happens mainly in a few locations over and over. I’m guessing that Apple has a faulty way of parsing out lots of Bluetooth signals. Seems crazy but it’s either that or some other kind of signal that interferes. I hope they fix it since it’s annoying.

Same issue here. iPhone 13Pro, most up to date iOS and same problems. I only encounter the issue of a gargled distorted sound (bidirectional) when I'm on a call either with BT headphones (AirPods pro or Beats Pro- does not matter) or within the car using BT. I've had this problem for at least 1+ year- thought it was the AirPods Pro and saw the Genius Bar 2x and both times they kept them, tested them and came back with no issue. Never thought it was the phone until I noticed it with the Beats Pro buds and within the car using BT. NEVER have a problem on speaker, wired headphones or using it in handset mode. It is BT within the iPhone and in my case the 13Pro and it has gotten worse over time. Issue I have is the phone, obviously except for this kind of big issue, itself is fine and I do not need to upgrade BUT I'm close to tossing this piece of junk out of the car window....

Wondering if you had any luck finding a resolution, I have the same issue.

Doesn’t matter if I’m driving with phone connected to Bluetooth (mine or my wife’s car), walking or driving with AirPods, music/audiobook/podcast (all downloaded to the device) all cutout.

My wife also has a 13 pro max and has no issues when connected to either of our cars.

I even know the areas where it will happen cause it’s always the same spots.
