I recently converted most of my albums in my photo library to "smart albums"
When i smart search "albums not is not any" to determine which photos are not in any Album.
It appears that the app does not recognize smart albums as "albums" because it returns a number in the '000's.
Hope i am doing something wrong, because its a useful feature.

Do you have any recommendations to search for photos that are not in any album then?
It would create a logical paradox, if we could define smart albums with rules relating to smart albums. Then we could specify smart albums that cannot be computed and make the computer crash, when trying.It would be similar to the famous mathematical problem of the "set of all sets that do not include themselves" which cannot exist.
Smart albums are not static like a regular album. So, using photos not in any album will not work. Smart albums are more like predefined searches.
What you've done is the correct search. But, smart albums are not albums. There is no way to exclude items in smart albums; unless you were to make those standard albums.
