Cell phone overheats Toyota RAV4 charges only

IPhone 12. (New) Constantly overheats using Toyota supplied cables in new 2022 RAV 4. Phone does not overvheat when charging at home with same apps on. What should I look at to stop this, or what does Toyota need to change? Could the car be giving too much Voltage to phone if overheating happens with different cables.

Hi MsRGL,

It sounds like the cables being used may not be Apple certified in your vehicle: Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories - Apple Support

Have you tried using your Apple cables in the car, as you can use them without issue at home?

Hello MsRGL,

While there isn't a way to check the power usage on your iPhone, you can contact your manufacture to see if they've heard of the issue or have any additional suggestions.

You can however, check app battery usage with the steps here: About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Additionally, as mentioned in the article previously shared:

"Your device might get warm

You might notice that your device feels warmer when you:

  • Set up your device the first time
  • Restore from a backup
  • Wirelessly charge your device
  • Use graphics-intensive or processor-intensive apps, games, or features, including augmented-reality apps
  • Stream high-quality video

These conditions are normal, and your device will return to a regular temperature when the process is complete or when you finish your activity. If your device doesn't display a temperature warning, you can keep using your device."

If you continue to have trouble, reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.

I thought so too. for this week, I put Apple certified cables and my phone still got warm when charging ( for over 20 min’ of charge time). The outside temperatures were not excessively. I heard that some apps use up too much chip processing and this can lead to overheating. is there a way to check processing power used?
