Macbook Air (M1) clicks don't work

I've recently encountered an issue where at random times my macbook doesn't click. The cursor works fine but doesn't allow me to click anything. This is happening for both the trackpad and a bluetooth mouse. The keyboard works fine. I am running the latest version of MacOS Ventura. I've contacted apple support and they recommended I, go into safe mode and check the issue and then reinstall MacOS. This fixed the issue but I have just experienced the problem again. What should I do?
