Changing Apple ID and pairing watch with new family me er

One family member used the watch but doesn’t need it now. I had it paired to my phone as a family member. I want to allow a different family member to use the watch (with the cellular data plan) and pair it to my phone. We erased the watch and all contents. Then I unpaired the watch from my iPhone watch app (and selected to keep the plan). However when we try to pair the watch to the iPhone, it says “This Apple Watch is link to an Apple ID…”. How is this possible if we unpaired and erased all contents from the watch? And how do we fix this so we can use the watch with my other family members Apple ID?

Hey WatchConfuzion,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. In this case, it sounds like the Apple Watch may still be linked to your Apple ID. We'd suggest locating it in your iCloud devices and removing it from there. Try the following, which is from Check your Apple ID device list to find where you're signed in - Apple Support, on a computer.

"Use your Mac to find where you're signed in

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings. In macOS Monterey or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click your name. In macOS Montery or earlier, click Apple ID.
  3. Click any device name to view that device's information, such as the device model, serial number, and OS version. The information might vary depending on the device type. You might need to answer your security questions to view device details.

Use your PC to find where you're signed in

  1. Open iCloud for Windows.
  2. Click Account Details, then click Manage Apple ID.
  3. Click any device name to view that device's information, such as the device model, serial number, and OS version. The information might vary depending on the device type."

Take care.
