Wired Headphones

I've just ordered a wired Headphone for my iPhone 8 as I only discovered today that whereas my iPhone 6 had a socket for my headphones, the iPhone 8 does not. I'm told that the headphones I've purchased work by plugging them into the charging port. My question is, does this mean that the new headphones I've purchased will work if I plug them into the charging port of my iPad 2? If they don't I shall have to take the both my existing headphones and my new headphones whenever I go out so that I'll be able to use both my iPad and my iPhone. This would be a monumental bore and before I risk blowing up the headphones and my iPad I'd like some guidance. Incidentally I also have some bluetooth ear buds which are not satisfactory for 2 reasons. 1. When I've used them in cafes or restaurants, they are reluctant to pair with my iPhone and iPad and I waste a lot of time farting about trying to make this happen 2. I've never mastered the tricky art of keeping them in my ears and they tend to fall out on to the floor necessitating a lot of crawling about under tables trying to find them. As I'm disabled, this normally requires the assistance of my fellow customers and a helpful barista.

Hard to say, since we have no idea what headphones you purchased.

If you bought these: click here ➜ EarPods with Lightning Connector - Apple

Then yes, they work by plugging them into the charging port, and should in fact work with an iPad mini 2 as shown in the compatibility section in the link above.

If you bought something else, please clarify exactly what you purchased.
