Allow Apple Watch to unlock your Mac - not working

Hello, I have the same problem as reflected in this archived post: unlocking mac with Apple watch problem - Apple Community. Like the author, I checked the sharing panel in system preferences and the screen sharing option is unchecked. I followed the instructions to reboot and still no luck. I am however using DisplayLink to share to a second monitor. Is there a workaround to unlock my mac wo password? TYIA

Have you already checked this support page at DisplayLink on the subject of using Apple Watch with DisplayLink?

For months I was frustrated with not being able to unlock apps and approve things with my Apple Watch 4 - which worked perfectly up until a few months ago. I blamed it on Monterey and Ventura. Apple support people were no help and were as puzzled as I was. Apple Watch was not even shown as an option on the System Settings>Touch ID & Password page. Aha! Then it occurred to me that maybe my Mac just wasn't sensing that I was even wearing an Apple Watch. I looked for any pertinent settings on the Watch app on my iPhone, couldn't find any so I just did a full reset on the watch and started fresh. Eureka! Everything now works as before. I still don't know the cause of the problem, but resetting the watch fixed the problem.
